A.P.S. : truths and reality of lean processing in your shop
Many “experts” in the six sigma, kaizen, lean manufacturing “theory of constraints” world believe you must radically overhaul your entire business model quickly to achieve sustainable results. I do not agree, I think this ideology is “extreme lean”. I believe many shops could not or would not adapt successfully to that belief. The radical changes necessary to accomplish that model of processing overwhelm, overload, and conflict with the very nature of their existing repair format for most collision facilities. Such a change in contrast is not reality.
This stark contrast becomes too burdensome creating more problems than it solves. Therefore it begins to fail and personnel simply give up and go back to the ways of old and become more critical and resistant to change then ever before.
Building a lean processing system is much like building a puzzle. A lean puzzle comes in a box with a picture on it that shows exactly what the puzzle will operate like once it is completed. Inside the box are hundreds of pieces (depending on complexity) that can only be assembled one way properly to match the picture on the puzzle box. But what happens if you don"t have all the pieces required for lean processing?
